These Terms of Use govern Vanity or Vice at vanityvice.blog and Vanity or Vice editorial tools, applications, submissions, and features that link to these terms. Vanity or Vice is published by Northern Lantern House LLC.
Four documents cover this site, and they do not overlap much. This one covers how you may use it. Here is the rest of the map.
1. Acceptance and informational use
By using a service governed by these terms, you agree to them to the extent permitted by law. Content and tools are general educational and editorial decision support. They do not create medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, individualized professional services, or provider approval. See Disclaimers & Disclosures.
2. Applications and claim tools
Claim decoders, comparison tools, calculators, evidence tools, and other interactive services may organize information and return a general educational result. They do not create a diagnosis, treatment plan, candidacy determination, procedural consent, medical record, professional certification, regulatory approval, or guarantee that a product or procedure is suitable for you.
3. Acceptable use and system protection
You may not use the site or applications to harm, interfere with, or obtain unauthorized access to systems, data, accounts, or other users. Prohibited conduct includes:
- automated scraping, harvesting, crawling, or bulk extraction without written permission, particularly where it degrades service or circumvents access controls;
- high-volume bots, automated requests, credential stuffing, denial-of-service activity, or attempts to evade rate limits;
- malware, malicious uploads, SQL or database injection, cross-site scripting, code injection, or attempts to alter, probe, exploit, or compromise the service;
- unauthorized penetration or security testing;
- bypassing authentication, entitlement, paywall, or other access controls;
- reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling, or extracting restricted source code, protected datasets, editorial scoring logic, or application logic except to the extent a right cannot lawfully be restricted;
- using protected content or application material as machine-learning training data without written permission; or
- impersonation, infringement, unlawful submissions, or interference with another person’s use of the service.
Northern Lantern House LLC may limit or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, intellectual property, security, or legal rights.
4. Copyright, intellectual property, and brand use
Unless a separate license says otherwise, writing, photography, illustrations, layouts, evidence systems, scoring methods, software, tools, datasets, and other original material are owned by Northern Lantern House LLC or used with permission. You may link to the work and quote reasonable short excerpts with attribution where law permits. You may not republish substantial portions, mirror the site, copy a tool or dataset into a competing service, remove ownership notices, or use Vanity or Vice or Northern Lantern House marks in a way that falsely implies affiliation or endorsement.
5. User submissions
You keep ownership of material you submit. You grant Northern Lantern House LLC a non-exclusive license to use it as reasonably necessary to receive, respond, moderate, investigate, correct, secure, and improve the service, subject to the Privacy Policy. Do not submit medical records or other sensitive information an ordinary editorial feature does not need.
6. External links and third-party services
Manufacturers, clinics, providers, retailers, regulators, studies, payment services, embeds, and other third parties operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Northern Lantern House LLC does not control them.
7. Accessibility
Vanity or Vice aims for WCAG 2.2 Level AA across primary reading paths, navigation, forms, and tools. Work includes keyboard access, meaningful structure, visible focus, adequate contrast, responsive reflow, useful text alternatives, and respect for reduced-motion preferences.
Third-party services may not meet the same standard. Report a barrier through the contact page with the page or tool, what you were trying to do, and relevant device or assistive-technology information. Where reasonably possible, essential information or a primary function will be provided in another usable form while a barrier is addressed.
8. Availability, changes, and data continuity
Northern Lantern House LLC does not promise that the site and applications will be uninterrupted, error-free, permanent, or available on every device. Features may be maintained, revised, corrected, limited, or retired. Keep independent copies of information you cannot afford to lose.
9. Liability and non-waivable rights
The site and tools are provided as is and as available to the fullest extent permitted by law. Liability is limited as described in Disclaimers & Disclosures. Nothing here waives a right or liability that applicable law does not allow to be waived or limited.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, subject to mandatory consumer protection or other non-waivable law that applies to you.
11. Changes
These terms may be updated as the service changes. Material revisions are reflected in the effective or last-reviewed date. Continued use after revised terms take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
12. Claire Elise Wellness
Claire Elise Wellness has additional, more specific health-education scope and privacy documents: its Scope and Medical Disclaimer and its Privacy and Your Data notice. Those documents control for Claire Elise Wellness where they provide a more specific rule or disclosure.
